Seven Tips to Up You Email Marketing Game

It is hard to imagine the importance of email marketing for any business, when our own inboxes are littered with spam emails. I personally hate receiving tons of crappy emails, specially when I am trying to find something in my inbox.

However, from time to time, a subject title catches my eyes. Though I might not open the email immediately, it stays in the back of my mind for future reference. But then, lo and behold, more times than not I end up going back to it and using that coupon or offer sent.

As a business owner, your success is very dependent on sales profit. But before you can close the sale, you must generate a lead. And how do you generate good leads for your business?

For your surprise, B2B marketers reported that emails are the most effective way to generate revenue. So…

Why are emails so important?

Regardless of the number of social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, SnapChap, LinkedIn, etc), email still the most used amongst all of them. Even among teenagers and young adults.

If you are building a marketing strategy for your business, it is paramount not only to include but to prioritize email marketing.

Reports have shown email marketing has a potential ROI of 4400%. Yes, you are reading it correct. In other words, for every $10 you spend on emails, you will be getting around $440 in return.

7- tips to up your email game

1- Do not purchase, create your own list

Lists that are purchased have already been blasted by your competitors. Do no waste your time with those. The best way to create an audience is to build your own list.

Whether you have a storefront or just a website, you should be striving to collect emails from your customers. The easiest way to get a good list of subscribers is by offering something of value (discount, free book, webinar, etc) for their email.

2- Targeting email

Not everyone is interested in everything you are offering. Break your list down into smaller target groups based on their preference. By doing that, the emails sent out will be automatically of more value for the recipient.

Direct Marketing Association have reported that the practice of email targeting generate around 58% of all revenue.

3- Auto Responders

It is a sequence of emails sent to your subscriber triggered by an event, download a book, or newsletter signup, etc. Such responders will nurture your leads into customers, and free up your time to focus on more important things. Combined with targeting email, auto-responders can be a powerful tool if used correctly.

There are several auto-responders providers, but my top option is Rocket Responder.

4- Retargeting

Retargeting works by dropping cookies into your visitors’ browser. When they visit other sites with retargeting enabled, your ad will display, keeping your site on top of their minds.

This is one my favorite strategy. Around 98% of visitors don’t convert on the first visit to your website. Keeping that in mind, retargeting is the solution. Visitors who are retargeted are 70% more likely to return to your website and make a purchase.

Sites like Facebook allows you to upload your email list into their servers, which will then retarget your audience.

5- Storytelling

Email marketing is about the content you are offering. Engage your audience with interesting stories. Find ways for them to interact with the content you are offering.

6- Authenticity

Stay true to yourself and your brand. Create a theme and stick with it. Include personalization, create focused content for your audience. Above all be authentic.

7- Split Testing

Create different content, and combinations. Test it with your audience and see what works best. Marketing is a game and you must play it correctly in order to be successful, and failure is just part of it.

Being a business owner is a challenge. When running a business, you are going into Uncharted territory and you must always remember… stay bold, stay fearless.
